July 4th, Independence Day

Many years ago our fore fathers signed the Declaration of Independence!  This was to declare the Thirteen colonies “Free and Independent States… Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown.”  This was one of the biggest and significant actions ever taken.  There was incredible risk and incredible benefit.  They took risk and we all continue to benefit.  They took the risk for all of us to live freely in this country.  The Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia.  It was and still is one of the cornerstones of our democracy – it provided a moral compass for our values and laws.  Today, as we celebrate with our flags, hamburgers and picnics. Let’s remember that many have struggled in efforts to give us what we have today!  Enjoy our land, respect the flag, be kind to all you meet and be well!

As the Declaration of Independence states

We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,
that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Many men and women worked hard and contributed much to make this so, for us all!  Let’s continue with the dignity and grace that was started so long ago by these great leaders!
