Crock Pot Time: Hal’s Beef, Yam, Carrot and Potato Stew

Wow!  The other day when it was very cold, I cooked some stew in my crock pot. I posted that I was doing it on FaceBook and got 9 responses, including someone asking if my recipe was going to posted here, on Yes, here it is! I gotta say I have only used this crock pot 3 time,s including this time, and, I love the thing.  First time I was impatient and under cooked the meal, but now I seem to have it figured out.  I loved this recipe, it is delicious and I recommend it, to you all!  I kinda winged it and here is what I did!


1 large yam

6 small white potatoes (1 1/2 inch around)

2 sticks of celery

1 medium onion

Small bag of baby carrots

1 small can of tomato sauce (8 ounces)

1 pound of lean stewing beef



Corn Starch

Some Worcestershire Sauce

How it is done:

Brown the outside of the meat this will keep the flavor in while it cooks, set aside

Put 1 tablespoon of corn starch and 2 tablespoons of water in the crock pot and mix till all blended

Add carrots, onion cut in 8ths, quartered potatoes, and yam pieces cut to the same size as quartered potatoes to crock pot

Add 1 cup of water

Put browned meat on top of potatoes, carrots, onions and yams

Sprinkle the top of the meat with Worcestershire Sauce

Sprinkle pepper and salt on top of meat

Cut celery into 1 inch pieces and put these on top of the meat as well

Cook in crock pot on high for 4 hours

Remove lid and add tomato sauce and stir ingredients around a little

Re-cover and continue to cook in crock pot on low for 2 more hours

Total time: 6 hours

You will dig this recipe!  I ate it while I wrote this down for you!  When I wasn’t too busy eating!
