Philadelphia 76ers’ Organization & Fans Excited for 2010-2011 Season

Doug Collins & Evan Turner look to turn things around in Philadelphia!

Last night, the 76ers Drafted Ohio State’s Evan Turner with the #2 overall pick in the NBA Draft and the overall consensus in Philadelphia is that it was the right pick.  Turner was named the 2010 National Player of the Year, after his Junior year at Ohio State.  The Sixers also named former #1 pick, Doug Collins, as their Head Coach in the off-season.

The Sixers had a dismal 2009-2010 Season, finishing 27-54 and missed the Playoffs.  Along with the poor record, attendance was way down at the Wachovia Center.  The Sixers even made a desperate move and brought back the beloved Allen Iverson to spark interest and sell tickets, but even that didn’t work out.

In hiring Doug Collins, the Sixers are adding a Coach who is not only recognized in the City, but also an individual who has led (3) different teams (Bulls, Pistons, & Wizards) to a 10+ win differential in his first season with each team.  Collins is also well respected throughout the NBA community.

In drafting Evan Turner, the Sixers are adding a versatile player who can play 3 different positions (point guard, shooting guard, & small forward) at the NBA level.  Having played 3 years at Ohio State, Turner looks to be a safe pick based on his maturity and basketball IQ.  Though he’s not expected to be an All-NBA level player, I believe he has the skills and desire to be an All-Star caliber player down the road, and a good player to build around.

Over the last few years, the Sixers have had to take a backseat to theother 3 Professional teams in the City, a City they owned in 2001.  With the addition of Doug Collins & Evan Turner, the Sixers appear to be taking the right steps, which are necessary to put the team back on the map and relevant again in the City of Brotherly Love.
