Once upon a time, there was a movie, about a band that was beyond description. People flocked from far and near to see this band and see what they would hear. The band was The Gratful Dead and they still live on, to this day, through recordings, the remaining members, their fans and this film, the Grateful Dead Movie! I remember seeing it originally in 1977 when it came out, we saw it at the Paramount Theater on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. The following night, right across the boardwalk at the Casino Arena, Jerry Garcia was playing with his band and of course we went that, too.
It’s been a few years since then, but the memories are still alive and the magic lives on. Jerry Garcia directed this movie and was the leader of The Grateful Dead and is featured in the film. This Wednesday night, April 20, in theaters all around the country the Grateful Dead Movie is being played as a special event, featuring new interviews and footage. I’ll be there, I wouldn’t miss it for the world, The Grateful Dead and their music on the big screen. So if you were ever curious, or you wanted to see The Grateful Dead but never did, or you saw them after Jerry had passed away, you might want to go to this very special evening for the opportunity to see what the experience is like in the mid-70s. The film includes the “Wall of Sound” which they used for only a few years!
People ask me, if I’m a deadhead, I say a little bit or kinda and you could say that! But that only partially sums it up, The Grateful Dead are a part of me and I like to think that I was a part of them! I discovered them when I was in eighth grade and I have been listening to them ever since. So friends come out to the theaters on Wednesday night and see what the magic was all about and feel the magic through the film. Satisfaction guaranteed, “and I bid you good night, good night, good night!”
